Internal Assessment Project Guide

The Project - introduction
  • The Project Pack
    • this resource is compiled from two different IB sources but is the complete and final word about everything project related.
    • visit the forum to download the Project Pack
  • There are three parts to the project:

The Report

Find out what IB says about the report.

This part of the project is worth 26 of the total 35 marks awarded by IB for the project. In other words this is by far the most important part of the whole process. However, with out the other two parts you will still get a zero.

Criterion G – Identifying the Problem within a Social Context (3 marks)

Determine what problem your project will solve. No tech is mentioned in this one!

Criterion H – Analysis and Feasibility Study (4 marks)

Get specific with what possible solutions could solve your problem. Remember, feasibility means to what extent is each solution do-able.

Criterion I – Planning and Developing the Chosen IT Solution (10 marks)

Plan out all of the details of the project that will solve the problem you identified in criterion G, then develop the solution. Think of this one as a timeline with words.

Criterion J – Testing and Evaluating the Solution (6 marks)

Go through the cycle of beta / revise, beta / revise, end-user / revise so that your final product is the best it can be. Remember, each step of the cycle must have a justified revision.

Criterion K – Assessing the Social Significance of the Product (3 marks)

Explain what impact you have observed (from a beta tester or two) and what impact you predict (can come from your client, or your own ideas) your product will have in its social context.

Criterion L – The Product (6 marks)

The final product.

Criterion M – The Log Book(3 marks)

You will keep a record of your entire project in your log book.

Remember, the key to a good log book is:

  • regular, dated entries
  • screen shots, diagrams, sketches, idea processing
  • evidence of: analyzing, planning, testing, implementing and evaluation

Appendixes

  • directions for opening CD
  • questionnaires
  • Works Cited in proper MLA style (necessary if you have information/resources in the creation of your product)
  • 8-10 screen shots of "key features" with captions/explanations if your project is an electronic-only one
