Second Semester Lesson Plans

The Lessons

This is the program of study I hope to follow for the remainder of the year. I understand however that this is not a perfect world and that things may change. Hopefully, though, this outline will remain close to what we do for the rest of the year.

Project Time and Log Book check

Discuss Criterion J using Mr. G's guide.

Also a note about "feasibility" from Criterion H. Dictionary.com defines it this way:

fea·si·ble

  1. capable of being done, effected, or accomplished: a feasible plan.
  2. probable; likely: a feasible theory
  3. suitable: a road feasible for travel

Keep this in mind when you re-read your Criterion H...do you explain why your chosen solution in capable of being done / probable / suitable?

Remember the Project is due the 28th of February!

Database Types

Background reading on the differences between two types of databases.  You should read this article and be familiar with Flat-File and Relational databases.

EVERY YEAR I have taught ITGS there has been an exam question about these two types of databases

(see database types)

then:

  1. Open Access
  2. Choose "projects" from the "Featured Online Templates" from the start page
  3. Modify that database (Categories, fields, etc)
  4. save your work
  5. Fill in at least seven 'projects'
  6. save your work
  7. Play with other options; views, tables, relationships, etc.
  8. save your work
  9. What type of table (from the article) is this?
  10. We will look at your tables as a class so save them to the class folder.

You can use Atomic Learning for assistance also.

Analyze the practicality of both the Microsoft Access application and of databases in general.

PROJECT DAY - no posts

Bring sample project book and "The Project" packet.

This is one of your last chances to have class time for the project!

Discuss Criterion K

Remember you can always ask me to look at your report sections, but before you do be sure you can identify each criterion requirement within the report. i.e. - if it asks for Beta Tester qualification, you should be able to show me where it indicates that in your report.

The whole thing is due in one and a half weeks!

Look at each others projects...try to break them, look for flaws, etc.

Reports are to be checked too. Look for:

  • Report
    • title page properly formatted
    • Criteria formatting
    • screen shots - captioned
    • appendix
      • directions for opening CD
      • questionnaires
      • Works Cited
      • 8-10 screen shots with captions/explanations if your project is an electronic-only one
  • log book
    • Name, school and candidate number on front
  • CD
    • Product
    • Report (two formats)
    • File with supporting documents

Web site Criteria

Do some research, there are rules to web design.
What makes a good web site?
What makes a bad web site?

Make a checklist that develops a suitable criteria for web sites.
You must include links to web sites that are examples of both good and bad web sites

You have 30 minutes to complete this and then we will look at a few of the good, the bad, and the ugly web sites you find.

5/12 - last day...

5/13
As you have an exam tomorrow my understanding is that you will not be in school this day. Check with the office just to be sure. I, of course, will be here if you have questions or just need a place to hang out.

From this point on the class is self-driven. Any and all assignments are here for your practice / pleasure / enjoyment / self-punishment... :)

I will, of course, be here any time. You are free to come by and talk ITGS, seek clarification or just shoot the breeze.

Please remember that I will need your Computer Confluence and Gift of Fire books returned sometime after the exam. If you do not return it you will not get your AIS-R grades (either at home or at university).

Speaking of the Papers...eat well, get lots of sleep and relax! You'll do just fine! Good luck and make me prouder of you than I already am.

If you wish to see other exams go to the Forum in the "Open House" section.

I wish you the best of luck on the exams on the 14th and 15th. It has been a pleasure to teach such a fine classes of self-motivated, intelligent and interesting students...really! :)
